If you're a contractor and you're tired of working harder just to break even, your team is busy, your backlog is full, but your bank account doesn't show it, guess what? You're not alone. And the good news is, you're not broken. You're just following a system that wasn't built for profit.
Here's the deal. Most construction business owners are living in a constant state of grind. You're wearing multiple hats, you're estimating jobs, you're managing crews, you're trying to solve problems on the fly, you're doing all this to keep the wheels on the bus because, let's face it, the construction industry is really hard.
Profit margins are low, there are labor shortages, there's constant disruption, and you're trying to navigate economic cycles. And this could be a lot. I know this because I've spent my entire career turning around and growing construction businesses.
As a CEO, as a CFO to million and billion dollar companies, and an advisor to many more. So I've been there before. I've been in your shoes.
And let's face it, your profit is likely swinging from job to job. And money's coming in, but you don't know where money's going. You want to grow, but hiring is hard, and training is even harder.
And the thought of bringing somebody in to lighten your load or to run your business seems completely impossible, right? And this may leave you feeling stuck. Do you feel stuck? I mean, because this is where I found myself multiple times throughout my career. One time as a CFO of this billion dollar construction company, and here I was trying to run multiple divisions.
Our general contracting business, our renewable energy side, we're building massive utility scale solar projects in the middle of the desert. And we had a development company, just to name a few. And the president of our development company came into my office one day.
He's like, Steve, I am so frustrated right now. I'm so discouraged. I'm working all these hours.
My wife's mad at me because I'm never home. I'm not there for dinner. My relationship with my kids is non-existent.
I'm not eating well. I'm not sleeping. I'm not working out.
And he looked terrible. He's all pale because all he did was work in the office. And he's like, I'm just about to snap.
I was like, okay, don't snap. The thing is you lack margin, right? You have no financial margin. You have no operational margin.
You have no leadership margin. You have no space to be strategic. And therefore you have no system to follow to fix all this.
So you're just like going around and around in circles. And that's where most people live, especially in the world of construction. So imagine that you're grinding it out.
You're putting a ton of time, energy, and capital into your business, and you're not running the returns. What could be more frustrating? I don't want this to happen to you and all the contractors out there. And that's why I created this podcast called Building Profits.
And it's meant to help contractors, like I said, just like you to think bigger and to earn more. So in every episode, I'm going to give you the strategies and the tools that I've used in the trenches, things that actually work. All these frameworks are free and I'm going to give them to you.
So number one, you can escape the chaos and free up some of your time. Number two, so you can earn more margin and scale your business with control. Number three, to create a high-performing team that's not super reliant on you.
And that generates great results that gets projects done and just handles things. And then finally, I want to give you a system that will give you more freedom, more security, and more confidence in your business. And that's why I'm doing this podcast.
I'm on a journey as well to document everything as I go down this path, helping all of these companies. I've been blessed with the opportunity to work with so many CEOs and business owners to add millions of dollars to their bottom line. And the transformation journey is amazing to me.
I mean, it's what I live for. I love seeing transformation in businesses. That's my promise to you.
Your journey starts right now. All you got to do is hit subscribe and meet me in the next episode. All right.
Until then take care. Cheers.
